a new school in Albany opened in the fall of 2009 on a 20 acre site at the eastern edge of the growing city. The first new elementary school in the city in many years makes a design reference to the quintesential "little red schoolhouse". The landscape design is reminissent of Albany's position in the heart of the Willamette Valley with its native prairies and historical agrarian roots.
In addition to ball fields and play areas, two outdoor gathering spaces were provided for students and teachers to enjoy in good weather. One space outside the library between two classroom wings is conceived as an outdoor classroom. The other is a place with tables outside the cafeteria.
